Each year around Tasmania PICSE - UTAS runs four main programs...
1. The Industry Placement Scholarship (IPS) Program
The IPS program can be split into four categories
- The Industry Placement Camp
A five day residential camp based at Ulverstone in December allows approximately 25 successful applicants the chance to see Science in local industries.

- Reunion
During the June/July holidays students are invited to a reunion in Hobart. The reunion is based at the School of Agricultural Science and is designed to give more information about the Ag Science course as well as the opportunity for friends to meet.
2. Science Investigation Awards
Students from Years 5-12 are invited to enter in the Science Investigation Awards held in late August early September.
The awards are designed to spark students' interest in Science through allowing them to design and carry out a science experiment of their own choice. Topics are endless and the variety on the presentation day is amazing.
Presentation days are held at UTAS campuses in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart. The days bring students together to show their work and allow judges to speak directly to students.
Winning investigations are celebrated at an evening event and students are presented with cheques from local Tasmanian Industries for their efforts.
3. Year 10 Science Camp/Experience
During Term 1 each year PICSE-UTAS holds a 3 day residential Science Camp on the North-West Coast and a 3 day Science Experience in Hobart.
These events cater to top Science Students in Year 10 and are designed to encourage the pathway from High School Science to studying Science at a tertiary level at college.
Students are shown around local industries giving them a firsthand look at how science is used in the wider world, post school and also provided hands on activities.

4. Teacher Professional Development
Each year in late November / early December PICSE - UTAS offers Senior Science Teachers state-wide the opportunity to attend a 2 day Professional Development course.
Teachers are kept up to date with current cutting edge scientific research, provided with fun practical exercises and the opportunity to network with university lecturers, researchers and other teachers.
PICSE nationally runs professional development courses in WA, SA, NSW, QLD and Tasmania and as a result there is the opportunity for 1-2 Tasmanian Teachers to travel interstate to attend a professional development course at another PICSE Activity Centre.
