UNE PICSE students are coming back for more
The University of New England will be holding a reunion event for the students who have completed the Industry Placement Scholarship at the start of this year. Also at this event new students who are applying for the scholarship this year will also be attending. The reunion event is taking place on the 15th of July. The day will be jam packed full of exciting activities which include an insight into the recent research and developments that have been achieved by the UNE Precision Agriculture Research Group (PARG), during this session students will be able to use state of the art tools that PARG use in their research. Also during the day the students will have hands’ on experience with the basic techniques in helminthology (faecal egg count, larval culture and differentiation) as well as some recently developed technologies (eg. Dipstick test). Students will also gain an understanding of the complexity of sheep parasites lifecycles and their control. UNE is a major centre for research on integrated parasite management (IPM) for worm infections in sheep. The reunion will also give an insight into the scholarships and opportunities that UNE can provide to undergraduates with previous PICSE students attending to give a summary of what they are doing now and what is ahead of them while they are studying at UNE, they will also give a brief overview of their UNE experiences both academically and throughout the college social life. The day will give the students an opportunity to gain a further insight into the broad range of science based careers supporting primary industries, as well as a taste of what the PICSE program is about and a sneak peak of what is to come if they are selected and successful applicants of the Industry Placement Scholarship. Students will be able to make contact with lecturers and will be able to ask the lecturers about their particular subjects to gain a better insight into the individual courses that available at UNE. The day should be a great experience for both new and old PICSE students and they will be able to share their experiences with one another.
