The National Primary Industries Centre for Science Education, or PICSE, currently operates through six university based activity centres under the direction of Dr David Russell, Senior Research Fellow, School of Agricultural Science, University of Tasmania. PICSE plans to broaden its base to 14 Activity Centres within the next 5 years. PICSE uses its own teachers or Science Education Officers, each based at a University, to design, produce and deliver curriculum based science resources for students and teachers nationally and to conduct science/industry camps, student industry placements, science investigation awards and targeted teacher professional development in practical industry settings, all through the involvement of selected industry scientists.
PICSE its national hub located at the Cradle Coast Campus of the University of Tasmania in Burnie.
The map below indicates the locations of present and proposed activity centres. Each Activity Centre has at least one Science Education Officer (SEO).
