The Industry Placement Scholarship Program includes a week long camp where students visit research organisations, science field sites, laboratories and more… an industry placement at a science organisation, a presentation evening and even reunions… And one of the best parts – it is a scholarship, where on completion of these components you receive $300…

Here’s how it works…
- A PICSE GrowSmart Science Education Officer visits the school and delivers a presentation to the science class. This illustrates cutting edge research and the importance of science to the primary industries sector, it also describes the program.
- Interested students submit an application to participate in the program.
- Students are short listed and potential candidates will have and interview. From this, 25 students from across South Australia are selected.
- These lucky students participate in a five day science camp in November/December. This camp allows students to visit industry places and research organisations in the Riverland, Barossa Valley, Adelaide, the southern region and the Adelaide Plains. There’s also a day at Flinders University and the Waite Research Institute. On this camp students will meet scientists, find out about career opportunities, try the technology and learn about South Australian science.
- Following the camp, students participate in the Industry Placement. This is like work experience, only better… no photocopying! Students are placed at an industry or research and development organisation for five days in January. Here they work with the scientists, try the technology and learn about the career pathways. On completion of this placement, a report detailing the experience must be completed. Students then give a three minute presentation on the experience to the other students and industry representatives. At this ‘reporting back night’, students receive a scholarship payment – of $300!
