Qualitative Returns

  1. Make the focus relevant to the supporting Faculty
  2. Developing strong linkages between supporting Faculty, school teachers and school students
  3. Increasing the Faculty’s profile within the local community
  4. Provide pathway from school to university to industry (real world pathway)
  5. Having experienced Science Education Officers (SEOs) in the university providing links between our education colleagues and researchers
  6. Provide students who are well prepared for undergraduate study

Quantitative Returns

  1. Higher student intake by 2012 in the BSc in Environmental Science, BSc in Marine Biology and Bachelor of Technology (Aquaculture) degrees
  2. Provide an annual Portfolio of evidence of community involvement
  3. Each year increase the:
    1. links between the program and industry (both PDs and camps)
    2. numbers of students exposed to the program (school presentations)
    3. numbers of industry partners involved in the program
    4. numbers of teachers involved in the PD days
    5. teaching resources available
    6. Faculty presence in schools
    7. exposure of students to Post Grad pathways offered in the Faculty
    8. number and quality of undergraduates
  4. Provide activities to allow the university to show case its facilities and research especially involving the new Science Innovation Learning Centre
  5. Reaching more Yr 7 – 12 students in schools using such activities as the Science Investigation Awards
