Learning outcomes for students

  1. To learn the technique of DNA extraction from commercially available fish species in Australia using a DNA extraction kit.
  2. To learn the technique of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
  3. To separate the amplified DNA by agrose gel electrophoresis.
  4. To differentiate species of fish using the results from DNA sequencing using BLAST searches.
